Updates

It’s been a few weeks since my last update, I’ve been doing well – just trying to get a few things done. I've decorated my Christmas tree and the house for the holidays - I'll send pictures as soon as I have them.
Below are some of the crafts I’ve completed.

We had a crafts night again, and here are some pictures from then, as well as our cute snowmen completed (thanks Zsuzsi for crocheting the scarf and hats!).

And a picture of my completed feather boa wreath (finished the next day).

This is the half-round sleigh-bell (Felkoros szancsengõ) based off of one found on the net that was a St. Nicholas Day Gift I did for Gábor. And a picture of Gábor!

I finally completed the biscornu, it turned out quite small so I’ve made it into a scissor fob. I’m happy with the outcome. Front and Back views.

Weekend Crafts

In one of the magazines I picked up last week, I saw a very nice punch-needle xmas craft I want to do - as I've never tried it before I picked up a punch-needle kit to test it out before doing the one in the magazine. It is a very simple craft and I was able to finish the whole thing in a couple of hours on Saturday. So I will be off to pick up the material for the xmas design this week.

And after seeing Kati's beautiful biscornu, I was motivated to try and do my own, although its been years since I've cross-stitched. I found a Macskanyomos pattern (Felsõ-Maros vidéki) in a magazine Kati gave me that I think will work. We will see how it turns out.

So Sunday, while watching TAR with Sue & George....

While I babysat Gábor on Friday (he was sleeping already) and after about 1 1/2 hours (basically re-learning how-to-cross-stitch) .....

I have to practice taking close-up shots though - sorry its fuzzy.

Catching Up

It has been a busy few weeks, with birthday dinners/get-togethers for a good friend, my brother-in-law, my mom, and my nephew (who has turned ONE!). A few nights of crafting, celebrating my other brother-in-law’s convocation, a wrap-up meeting with the Festival Committee, dinner with the Festival Committee members, Halloween goody giving, organizing my magyar szoba, and of course Survivor Nights and TAR Nights. I've been having a great time!

Last night we had a Craft Night at my place, we all worked on different projects, it was so nice to have everyone over and to relax and do some crafts. I painted a cute little wooden shovel for my front doorway; I’ll add some greenery, ribbons and embellishments to it after I put on a topcoat. (If the others don’t post on their blogs then I’ll add pictures of their crafts as well). When Zsuzsi, Julie and Kati left I couldn’t put it away so I finished the painting portion of the shovel.

Below is the penguin push-toy I made from scratch for Gábor for his first birthday. It’s based on one I found on the web. Gábor had a great birthday party (see Nancy and Robb’s blog for pictures) and Gábor was absolutely adorable (as usual). I can’t believe it has already been a year.

On November 3rd, Julie, Zsuzsi and I went to UB the Artist to paint ceramics; I did a small striped Christmas tree ornament and a tray. I got them last night and I’m happy with the way they turned out (they are not perfect, but I like them).

A full weekend.

The weekend was great - I got to spend time with Gábor, my sisters and their husbands.

Friday, we went to get our passport photos taken. I need a new one for my upcoming trips to Disneyland and Mexico! I can't wait. We then went shopping at Costco and watched the movie "Over the Hedge" - a great movie!

Saturday was more shopping and then babysitting Gábor, I love the way he interacts with people and objects and how he notices everything.

Sunday I got to see Gábor at his swimming lesson, he's so cute and does so well. Followed by lunch at a cozy cafe, some window shopping, a visit with our godparents and then zipping down to my other sister's house to watch TAR and a movie.

A full weekend, yet I was still able to finish some requested projects for Gábor. The first is a child-size knitted scarf, we saw them while we were shopping and so of course I had to make one. The second is a duvet cover for a child size duvet that Nancy bought about 2 months ago. My first attempt at making a duvet cover, its very simple, so I will definately be making Gábor some more! Its been so long since I had time to do some crafts, it felt really good to be able to do some this weekend and to actually finish them too.

It's Done.

After months and months of planning, the Festival has come and went. A lot quicker than what it took to plan it. I had a great time, even if there was lots of running around to do during the weekend, I still managed to enjoy it as well. From the comments we heard from people - it seems that everyone enjoyed it. It was a great event. A lot of people put a lot of work into making it such a success, it was great to see how many people turned out for the 2 shows and how many volunteered to help out during the weekend. A huge thank-you to all. It was also great to see a lot of the people from the other groups that I only get to see once a year, the Festival is partly a yearly reunion and it is so nice to see old friends.

A couple of pictures from Friday night's directed táncház.

Now to return to normal life.

Alright. The weekend went well, I had a lot of things planned, one of which was going to a hungarian embroidery class with some friends. I had a good time and I promised myself that this would be one embroidery piece I completed. So here it is. It might not be perfect, but this time I finished a piece!!! Now I can return to normal life.

And I couldn't help but put a picture of Gábor in his magyar vest I asked Zsuzsi & Attila to get for him.
